The Horrors of House Hunting

Listening now…

Where have I been?

House hunting. It has been taking over my life. Ohhhhh….house hunting. If you have been there you know. The struggle is damn real.

We have really been enjoying the process but it can be fun, heartbreaking, hilarious, exciting, and sad all at the same time.

We previously had an accepted offer on an adorable Cape Cod style home but after inspection it just had too many things that needed to be done that the sellers were not willing to budge on…and there happened our very first house hunting heartbreak as we had to walk away. It’s true what they say- if it’s meant to be it will be.

Of course there have been plenty of odd things we have come across while looking around….that I just had to share.

There was the house with the wrestling rink in the garage….

Those are cemented into the floor.

There was the house where I was really close to

getting attacked by a turkey…

The one that was listed as a 3 bedroom “2 bath,”

with this being the 2nd bath in the basement.

Guests won’t mind, right?

…….Where do I put my offer in?

The one with the Macaroni duct tape on the screen.

This will work….

The house where Mr. Knight was your neighbor….

Having a constant protector could be good, right?

The house where Jesus and germs were…..everywhere.

I hope you guys enjoyed! There might be a part 2 of this is we see even more houses with funny and ridiculous things- which is quite possible.

Do you have any house hunting horrors?

  1. Omg omg omg…I’m so sorry to hear that things didn’t work out with the cape 😦 but like you said, if it’s meant to be, it will be.

Uhm…. is that a toulet… BEHIND A CURTAIN?! Oh, hell to the no. Not sure which is worse though—the wrestling rink is pretty friggin bizarre lol.

Ooof, this process has been emotional and challenging like you said, we were just outbid on our fourth home and that one sucked the most bc we both really loved it. I’m sure things will work out for us all, but damn—getting there is quite the ordeal, right??

      • Oh I’m so sorry to hear that 😦 it’s so hard not to get your hopes up and to just ease into the process… do you have a lease that’s coming up soon? We have until aJuly to figure out our situation, and can’t do month to month, so not sure what we are going to do. Whomp! Good luck, and keep me posted!!

      • We don’t we are both still living at home so we are in no rush luckily- just when you start looking seriously it’s hard to stop and you just want to so badly find ” the one” 😦

  2. Oh goodness, I was a mixture of in shock, horror and laughing.

I have not had anything like this, but while flat hunting to rent privately it has either been where the living room was smaller than my current living room with a kitchen that I could not call a kitchen. Another where my electric meter was in the shop downstairs. I wasn’t having it.

Looking at private places to rent as stopped now, as i cannot afford to move, so i am hoping something comes along in a council flat. But this could be some years waiting. I know I cannot afford to move now for the next year or two when it comes to renting private.

      • Yes, you have to laugh to relieve the frustration of falling in love with a property, that turns out not to be what you expected. 🙂

  3. LOL that’s why I’m glad I only did it once. We are living in our home till we die. I’m never dealing with that BS again lol!

  4. Those are really funny! I can’t believe they tried to stretch that as a 2nd bath! My worst house hunting experience was when we went to see a nice sized short sale house. There was advertised a fully finished basement. When we walked in to the house, we were attacked by fleas. There weren’t as many upstairs so we just had a few small bites and wondered what on earth that was. We then tried to go down to the basement and the spiral wodden staircase had been broken down. You couldn’t really tell at the angle we were at. The realtor stepped on it first and it began swinging all over. So we went to the back yard where the sliding glass doors opened up to the basement. When we opened the doors we were absolutely swarmed by fleas. It was really gross. I don’t think I looked at another house for 2 months! lol
