We were lucky enough to have 2 Halloween parties this year (this never happens) lol and we had a great time… I always love seeing how people set their homes up for Halloween parties and the holidays.

My blog (and my blog readers)- you are my reprieve from this crazy world we live in. And an outlet to get it all out there!

Chasing waterfalls at Watkins

Listening now…

[Frankie showed me this song on our drive and it’s been on repeat ever since…]

For my birthday, my love surprised me with a camping trip to Watkins Glen State Park .

We went chasing waterfalls! Cue TLC song….

Taken from the website,

“Within two miles, the glen’s stream descends 400 feet past 200-foot cliffs, generating 19 waterfalls along its course. The gorge path winds over and under waterfalls and through the spray of Cavern Cascade. Rim trails overlook the gorge. “

We camped right at Watkins Glen State Park Campground which was amazing because our camp site was walking distance to the trails to the waterfalls! And we got a great site that was nice and private.

Upon entering the park, you feel like you are in a scene from Indiana Jones. The lush greenery and the jungle like atmosphere make you want to swing across within the trees.  (Tarzan?)

That night we ventured into Watkins Glen town and stopped at Rooster Fish Brewing

I really loved the atmosphere, especially that they had games available to play! The beers were delicious and we took a growler back to the campground.

We found out that Rooster Fish also has a restaurant that sells their beers too, and it happened to be the restaurant I was thinking of for dinner anyway so it was an easy choice!

We had dinner at Wildflower Cafe and Crooked Rooster Brewpub

I got their special mozzarella sandwich and sweet potato fries and we got a crab dip for an app, so good and worth every calorie.

On my birthday day we had to head home but decided to stop in Ithaca on the way home and stopped for a bite to eat at the Carriage House Cafe .

What drew me to this place was the Brie- stuffed french toast I saw on the menu and their local farm and non GMO style. #Eatlocal. The french toast was out of this world good and I also got a blueberry sorbet mimosa that was like desert for breakfast! (That’s what you do on your birthday…)

A Woodstock birthday

Listening now…

This weekend was Frankie’s birthday and we celebrated by spending a great weekend in Ulster County!

I surprised him with a massage at a spa in Woodstock and I also got a facial 🙂 We went to the same spa mom, sis, and I had our girls spa day for mom’s birthday this year.

We ventured into Woodstock after to grab lunch and walk the town…

What did you do this weekend?

Currently in July

Listening now…

This song has been stuck in my head lately. The beginning is sad but it gets happier… I think it’s good that songs like this are raising mental health awareness. I encourage you to give it a listen! That number the song is named after is the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number. I have never struggled with this personally but truly feel for those who do. This is for a friend who reached out to me last week who was struggling…

It has been awhile since I have done a “Currently” post- since March, to be exact! Looking at those snow pictures is crazy because it does not feel that long ago at all that that was outside! This year is flying by. How is it July already?!?

I loved posting about my Greece trip, and I still may do one part, but I was too excited to get back to my normal blogging routine.

Currently celebrating…

rainbow

A double rainbow after a beautiful summer thunderstorm…

Summer time (my favorite time ever) is in full swing and I am just celebrating sunshine and swimming as much as I can.

How was your July 4th?

Mine was filled with a puppy, ice cream, and swimming at a water park!

puppy 2puppy 3puppy 1

This is my cousin’s new puppy Lucky, who is a Scottie poo. I love himmmmm! We went out for ice cream and he was pretty excited.

We had a bit of an early July 4th celebration with the family and mom brought out this amazing surprise.

Has anyone else ever had the Friendly’s watermelon cake? It’s lemon and watermelon sherbert with chocolate chip “seeds.”

It’s the best.thing.in.the.world.

watermelon cake.jpg

While writing this post I actually remembered we had leftovers in the fridge so I had some more…

July 4th week was not a good eating week for me at all, lol! But I did go to my spin class.

I have still been keeping up with my regular gym routine every week and spin class has been the most beneficial exercise for me that I have ever tried in terms of seeing results! I spin and then I go in the sauna and it is very therapeutic. Often I regret my decision to go within 5 minutes of class when I feel like dying, but I never once regret actually going once it’s done.

Currently doing…

On my days off, we have been hanging out at our favorite lake.

lake 1lake 2lake 3

There needs to be way more days like this….not working but swimming and laying in the sunshine! =D

This summer I definitely plan on exploring new swim areas though and have a few on my list.

The other thing I have been busy “doing” is working my new reception job at the animal hospital. I took this job to figure out if I wanted to go back to school for Vet Tech, which I had previously started. I really like the job itself and enjoy being around all of the puppers and doggos, but ultimately don’t think I want to be a Vet Tech.

I’m trying to focus on what I enjoy doing and am good at, which is blogging. I would love to do something creative, like this, that also integrates creativity for a cause- like working with animal organizations. I still have a passion for nonprofits (my other job) and I am going to take some Communications and Media classes this fall so that will be fun!

Currently loving…

I decided to stop into Burlington Coat Factory the other day on a whim.

I am so glad I did! I found these super cute “Bobs for Dogs” by Sketchers brand shoes.

Every pair you buy goes to benefit the Best Friends Animal Society. They have a ton of cute designs on their site and now I want more of them!

They are also insanely comfortable with memory foam.

Another thing I am loving lately is this bathing suit that I got at Marshalls. I love the cut out side trend in one pieces right now and it is really flattering!

I hope you are all having a fabulous July and summer!

Thanks for reading!  XOXO

Easter and a first birthday!

Listening now…

(This song though. Worth a listen, I promise….XOXO)

It’s been a busy few days! I am so so happy that the Daffodils are in full bloom and the pink trees are out and about.  Spring is seriously like a breath of fresh air.

I was in the city all day Thursday from super early in the morning until later that night with 15 teenagers for work! It was fun but definitely exhausting.

Then on Saturday we ventured down to Long Island for Frankie’s nephew’s first birthday. The theme was “wild one” complete with baby Kenny wearing his wild one shirt with fake mom and dad tats. LOVE.

Before we headed home I said we HAVE to go to the beach- it was about 80 out! And we don’t live anywhere near a beach so any time we are near one we have to go over…. we brought Frankie’s dog Renfield with us and it was Renny’s first time at the beach!

Weekend roundup: Girls Spa day

Listening now…

What did you do this weekend?

It was definitely a busy one for me! And I ate a lot of delicious food. Our area does an event called “Restaurant week” where you can get a 3 course meal for $20 per person!

WARNING: This post will most likely make you hungry. I am hungry while I write this and reliving this food I just ate…is kind of torture. 🙂

Friday night we took full advantage of this and went out to eat at a brewery…of course we had to get dessert since it was included, didn’t want it to go to waste!

Mmmmmmm.

Blog pic- crossroads food.jpg

The rest of the night was pretty relaxing… Sunday was our girls day we planned for mom’s birthday.

We planned a spa trip and I got an hour long Swedish massage! I have never gotten a massage before and it was incredible.

It took me a little while to shut down my brain, relax, and let my muscles go. But once I did I felt everything melt away.

spa day.jpg

We headed to one of our favorite restaurants after and got some pink grapefruit and ginger margaritas and delicious food!

Dessert: Before and after.

Mango and coconut sorbet and salted caramel gelato and Butterscotch Budino. Holy crap.

The Butterscotch is something we must get every time we come here….so amazing.

In other news….

We booked our trip to Santorini, Greece! I talked about this in my last post- and now it’s official.  Excited is an under statement. I feel completely blessed and now it’s time to buckle down and save $$$ and learn some Greek language! We go for 9 days in May =D

I am thinking of writing a blog post of my Greece bucket list!

Also….I have been obsessed with Castle on the Hill by Ed Sheeran all weekend.  (Listen above!)

It’s such a relatable song and I just want to sing it loud with the windows down while I drive in the summer…..

When I was six years old I broke my leg
I was running from my brother and his friends
And tasted the sweet perfume of the mountain grass I rolled down
I was younger then, take me back to when I

Found my heart and broke it here
Made friends and lost them through the years
And I’ve not seen the roaring fields in so long, I know I’ve grown
But I can’t wait to go home

I’m on my way
Driving at ninety down those country lanes
Singing to “Tiny Dancer”
And I miss the way you make me feel, and it’s real
We watched the sunset over the castle on the hill

Fifteen years old and smoking hand-rolled cigarettes
Running from the law through the backfields and getting drunk with my friends
Had my first kiss on a Friday night, I don’t reckon that I did it right
But I was younger then, take me back to when

We found weekend jobs, when we got paid
We’d buy cheap spirits and drink them straight
Me and my friends have not thrown up in so long, oh how we’ve grown
But I can’t wait to go home

I’m on my way
Driving at ninety down those country lanes
Singing to “Tiny Dancer”
And I miss the way you make me feel, and it’s real
We watched the sunset over the castle on the hill
Over the castle on the hill
Over the castle on the hill

One friend left to sell clothes
One works down by the coast
One had two kids but lives alone
One’s brother overdosed
One’s already on his second wife
One’s just barely getting by
But these people raised me and I can’t wait to go home

And I’m on my way, I still remember
This old country lanes
When we did not know the answers
And I miss the way you make me feel, it’s real
We watched the sunset over the castle on the hill
Over the castle on the hill
Over the castle on the hill

2016 triumphs; 2017 goals

Listening now…

I hope you all had a safe and happy New Years filled with those you love and plenty of goals you promise to keep.  ; )

We started off the holiday with some snow tubing with Frankie’s family and later on that night a lovely evening of a double date complete with snow, pecan pie, and champagne at midnight…

tubing.jpgnye-1desertdeer mtn.jpg

nye-babe

I broke out sparkly orange tights for NYE because you can never be sparkly or glittery enough on this night!

So while I think it’s important to create new resolutions or goals for the new year, I almost think it is even more important to ourselves to realize our triumphs of the year behind us.

We are notoriously hard on ourselves as a society and it’s really sad.

We have to acknowledge our triumphs and I wanted to share with you my 2016 triumphs so maybe you will be inspired to pat yourself on the back, too!

2016 triumphs:

Being healthy!

yoga.jpg

I have successfully kept my promise to myself and have gone to the gym consistently for about a year and a half along with yoga once a week, but only recently have actually started seeing real results! I’m really proud of myself for this, for eating healthy, and for trying new classes like piyo and spin. Spin is what I have actually seen results from and have kept up with for quite a few months now- I especially like it because it’s an intense cardio workout that you can sit down the whole time if you wish, LOL. About 5 minutes into the class I am regretting my decision to sign up and dreaming of my wine and the couch, but I push through!

spin gif 2.gif

Keeping up with this blog.

This past August was my 1 year blogiversary and the victory of also actually keeping up with something consistently! I get distracted a lot and tend to want to try so many things, that often they fall to the wayside. But this blog has become a lot more to me than I imagined and inspired me to be more positive, do more, etc! It has become a journal for me, even writing about my triumphs right now is giving me perspective for all that I have done this past year- let’s face it, writing things down and seeing it in front of you makes it real. And is really therapeutic!

 My first sponsored blog post!

I basically love Oriental Trading and they gave me my first sponsored post-on one of my favorite things ever, Halloween decor.

They even sent me a Christmas card thanking me for being a brand ambassador and saying they enjoyed working with me- simply a pleasure to work with and I feel honored! It also inspired me to reach out to more brands in the future.

Making steps towards my dreams.

I continued volunteering for the SPCA, (although in 2017 I want to walk way more doggies) explored schooling, and completed an internship at the animal sanctuary of my dreams. I really really want to work in the animal welfare field and a sanctuary would be perfect. I explored and took classes in the Vet Tech program, went back and forth and still do, but I think I want to focus on the animal welfare and nonprofit side of things. I also realized I think I want a job where I can be a bit creative. I currently work for a nonprofit and it is so flexible, rewarding, and I have never been treated better in a job before. Right now I am exploring a graduate non profit administration program and will probably try a class to see if I like it…. to be continued! I know what I want, the getting there is a bit confusing…but all in all, proud of myself for making the steps.

Remember my 17 quotes for 2017 post? Well, I am tired….but this quote holds so much truth. Remember to rest.

rest.jpg

Without goals, we would not have triumphs? Am I right? Alas…. goals for 2017.

2017 goals:

Be more consistent with my blog…

While it’s great that I have kept up with my blog so well (triumph!), my consistency is lacking. I am not going to lie, the holidays had me slacking quite a bit, but there were times when I was in school and I will be in school again this coming semester, and it’s all about balance, right? I want to always improve my ability to balance everything and in turn, better this blog.

The thing is, I know this blog could be more amazing if I kept up on it and did more bloggy outreach kind of things. This is a goal! I want to maintain my blog connections better and keep up on everyone else’s blogging life, as well. Bloggers write about their lives but cannot be self absorbed to succeed in this world of blog…isn’t it ironic?

Continue trying new things…

This year I really was proud of myself for getting out of my comfort zone and trying new things- 2017 has goals for me to try silks, pole dancing classes, and hip hop classes. To name a few!  Along with this, I want to hike more unknown terrain, literally. Last summer any time off I spent at the lake, my favorite place in the world. But because of this, I also didn’t venture out as much to new areas to explore…this spring/summer I want to find new places to explore!

hike.jpg

Save, save, save…

save money.jpg

This goal is kind of 4 goals wrapped in 1-

This year I really want to travel, move out on my own, and take classes for school… These things require a lot of money! So it’s time to save.

If I take a graduate class it is over 1k plus books. It’s insane. Thank God for payment plans is all I can say…

I am really good at selling things I no longer wear on Ebay. I fell off of it for a bit but I think it is time to jump back on that! You can make such good money while clearing out your clutter  and if you have enough of an Ebay following and good rating, people trust to buy from you and are more likely to do so. And now that I have my Canon Rebel, it’s easier to take good shots.

Be happy, healthy, and more present.

More meditation, more tea, less anxiety. Please, 2017?

I have some smaller goals too like read more books and to learn the ukelele (finally) but I’m trying to focus on the big picture here….

Christmas has come and gone…

Listening now…    music-notes

I hope you all had a good holiday!

How has Christmas come and gone already?

I wanted to share a bit of my festivities with you all since it is my favorite time of the year.

On Christmas Eve, we traveled down to my love’s side of the family in Long Island.

I had so much fun embracing the differences of celebrations between our families and playing with all of the little babes!

christmas-evesangriadear-santafrankie-and-maddi

The coolest was when Santa showed up on Christmas Eve! They have a friend that does this every year for them and even buys her a bunch of gifts….so cool.  #greatguy #santa

On Christmas day…..we got just a tad excited….

Can you spot the toys Santa brought the pups? #moo #oink

I was actually crafty this year with mama’s gift and made this chalkboard wine bottle that says “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas but if the white runs out, I’ll drink the red!”

I am very proud of it =D

2 of my personal favorite gifts from santa this year include these lace up over the knee boots and this shirt I am wearing in this picture that could not be more perfect.

The skirt was from Santa too and I love it so much! The shirt says, “I just want to drink wine save animals and take naps.” TRUTH.

On top of the amazing Christmas festivities, me and the babies got some quality time together….
