Reverse Bucket List: 2017

Listening now…

Happy New Year everyone!

Instead of writing out goals this year I wanted to do a Reverse bucket list post. I have been seeing these around and wanted to write one so what better time than the end of one year! I love writing goals, but the reverse bucket list is a way for you to look back on your year with gratitude for all you have done and accomplished!

bucket list.jpg

  1. Traveled to my dream destination-Santorini, Greece. This by far made 2017. Start here with my Stories of Santorini posts if you want to come along on the journey. The next few things on my reverse bucket list also took place in Santorini:
  2. Swam in a hot spring.  Definitely.was.not.hot.  But so worth it to say we did it.
  3. Ate a real Greek Gyro. (And ate them….every day.)
  4. Quadded around the cities of Santorini. And watched many Greeks completely ignore stop signs. (Stoptional, am I right?)
  5. Rented a private cruise ship.
  6. Experienced the most amazing sunsets of my life looking over Santorini.
  7. Okay moving on to the rest of the year…
  8. Went to Watkins Glen and walked under waterfalls
  9. Rescued a dog and experienced first hand picking her up! Hey Molly….. 🙂
  10. Saw my sister graduate yoga school. (200 hour) That was a really cool experience & I am so proud of her!! Yoga graduations are not like regular graduations- there is a lot of chanting, meditating, and dancing! (Plus food)
  11. Went to a cat cafe for the first time! They even had cat cupcakes.
  12. Went to my first bachelor & bachelorette party
  13. Reached almost 900 WordPress & 900 email followers on this little blog (Woohoo thank you all!)
  14. Put my first ads on my blog & got accepted as a Target Affiliate
  15. Reached out to many brands for collaborations. Sure I got no answers on quite a few but I still did it…
  16. Left my job to pursue working at an animal hospital
  17. Came back to my job in realizing the animal hospital life is not for me. Learned I really don’t want to be a Vet Tech.
  18. Went back to school to take Graphic Design classes. So far I love it and am continuing with it and want to take Web Design classes too so we will see what happens. Anyone else following this path?
  19. Got to design a logo for my fundraiser at my job. It was really cool to see my logo on the photos every one took on the red carpet!
  20. Met with a funding group about buying a house. Doing big adulting things is well….scary. We have been looking at homes on and off for about a year and a half, but now we are definitely getting more serious about it. We weren’t really ready until recently and now we are really excited about it.
  21. Went to a lighthouse
  22. Went to see my sister’s new place in Wakefield, Rhode Island.
  23. Did a photo shoot with a photographer on a USS Slater ship. It was a 1940’s vintage shoot!
  24. Went to a great pumpkin blaze with thousands of lit Jackolanterns
  25. Got the chance to work with Rover.com on this blog & have them write a blog post for me and Tweet it on their Twitter. As a dog lover, this was really cool for me and I always love developing new relationships with brands to work with.

So cheers to all of our accomplishments this past year and sure– we’ll set some goals too. But most of all, we will be proud of ourselves and how far we have come. We will live in gratitude and have more presence in our daily lives, being mindful of our steps as we take them.

“Don’t look back- you’re not going that way”

Letters to the Universe [December]

Listening now…

(I have been listening to this on repeat but I always skip to # 3 (starts at 7:00) , not a huge fan of 1 and 2 but the rest of the album is fantastic!)

How’s everyone’s weekend going?!

I hope well… it’s been good for me, but today is chore and homework day. I am in the final stretch with school, with my final project due this week, in case you were wondering where I have been. I have a ton of blog posts planned for this month, especially since I will have more time!

I wanted to do this fun blog post that I first saw on one of my favorite blogger’s site, here!     (Hey Charlotte- thanks for the inspiration!!)

Letters to the Universe: [December]

Dear December, I’m not sure how you happened and it feels like as I get older, the years pass by faster and faster. But I welcome your festivities with Christmas, that give us a chance to spend with family & friends and be thankful. And that warm fuzzy feeling that it all brings.

Dear residents of my town and surrounding, Seems you guys went all out this year with your Christmas lights- thank you for that. I think we all need brighter holiday cheer this year with the state of our world being as it is.

Dear 2 weeks, please help me to not dread Monday as much. Push me to get through my final project and make it all that I know it can be. Give me the inspiration I need for it  and the creative flow to keep me going.

Dear Netflix, thanks for making my next 2 weeks better by bringing back The Crown. YES! Sorry I still haven’t finished Stranger Things even though it came out around Halloween and we are now approaching Christmas. I’ll work on that, but This is Us and Hallmark and Lifetime Christmas movies have been life lately. (When I do actually have time to watch TV.)

Dear Molly and the rest of my pups, you make my days worthwhile. You are the reason I haven’t moved out of my house yet at 26. (Mom and I will work out joint custody of you when the moving out does happen.)

Dear Molly specifically, can you work with us on trying to stop eating your own poop and those nasty black worms outside… also, must you bring said worms into the house with you? You’re lucky we love you.so.much.

Dear seasonal blues and somewhat more frequent cranky moods lately, go away. You’re not needed here, especially around the time of festive holiday cheer. Be cheery.

[Blog post to come about more on those seasonal blues…]

Dear overthinking, I really don’t need you here either. You overcomplicate the simple and stress me out….

Dear blog readers and followers, you mean so much to me! Thanks for your loyalty and patience with me taking my sweet time to write these posts. 😉  (Quality over quantity)

Dear Christmas, as I get older I truly enjoy giving more than getting. Thank you for teaching me the importance in that and giving me that feeling I love so much every year.

November Gratitude: Year 2/ Week 4

Listening now…

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and felt the thanks, love, and happiness while surrounded by your family.

We have our last week of November Gratitude and with it, Thanksgiving!

This week I’m grateful for…

I’m grateful for contributing my first dish to Thanksgiving….sweet potato casserole…yum!

November Gratitude: Year 2/ Week 2

Listening now…

If you missed week 1 gratitude, start here.

november

This week I’m grateful for….

New opportunities.

I got invited to attend a work fundraiser (and work it) and I am not going to lie, I didn’t want to go at first. Mainly because it was a week night (lol) and I am normally very busy with school work and other things during the week. My work friend convinced me to go and looking back I am really glad I did!

This was an event where you could “walk the red carpet” with the non profit agency I work with. The idea behind the event was to debut a documentary that was made about the clients we help (with the clients actually in the movie- many of whom work for the agency now) and tickets sold at the door benefit our programs.

I felt honored to be there and had a great time- it was also really cool to see my logo that I made for it featured on each photo taken on the red carpet!

red carpet 1carpet dresspics red carpet.jpg

We also had the opportunity to throw a group for the teens we work with and baked apple pies and crisps and made thankful trees.

It was really cute to see what the kids wrote and to teach them to appreciate gratitude…

A few different kids wrote our agency on their leaves and our shelters that we run, which was really cute to see.

New Sims games!

Sims 4 cats and dogs came out this Friday and of course I made a Molly already!

It’s really well done and you can even create mixed breeds, so I created her Chihuahua- Papillon mix.

I am thinking about doing another A Sim Story series  but with the cats and dogs expansion pack.  (And I would actually continue with it this time….)

Let me know what you think!

My Sim version of Molly acts like a goofball like real life Molly.

A weekend to relax and getting back to routines…

Being an introvert,  I am pretty excited to have a little time “off” from having many plans.

The last few weeks were really fun with Halloween, a busy family wedding, and the work event and group. But I am kind of excited to have a few weeks that aren’t as busy for a little while until the holidays come! This weekend I had a lot of down time which included a lot of Sims time.

Getting back to routines is good, too… that includes going to the gym and back to my spin, zumba, and yoga classes. I haven’t gone in a few weeks and I feel the difference in my body, especially in how tense my shoulders are.

What are you grateful for this week ?

November Gratitude: Year 2/Week 1

Listening now…

seeds.jpg

It’s time for my November Gratitude weekly posts again! (Our second year doing this as the title says!) I don’t know how it’s quite this time already, but it is.

I didn’t realize until working on this post that November is actually National Gratitude month! I just like to think more about gratitude this month as we come up on Thanksgiving.

I can’t believe we are coming up on the holidays, but I am also so excited! It is the best part of the year (besides summer) October-January when we have a string of holidays to look forward to.

This week I’m Grateful for….

Celebrations of love.

We were blessed enough to celebrate a wedding this weekend for Frankie’s very close first cousin. I am always grateful to see others celebrate their love and felt honored to be a part of it!

New shows coming back.

shameless.jpg

This one might seem silly (or not to some of you?!) but this fall has been amazing for shows coming back- Stranger Things and Shameless came back today!! I’m only on episode 4 of Stranger Things so no spoilers…. =P (Not to mention This is Us which has been amazing.)

And I just found out The Crown is coming back to Netflix this December 8th!

A change of seasons.

It got dark by 5 today… I definitely struggle with winter but still appreciate the change in seasons and the part of winter that brings being inside and cozy, and letting your introvert flag really fly.   And by that, I mean being a bit of a hermit.  Life slows down a bit more, and I am looking forward to that.

How well Molly has adjusted with us.

IMG_5723

These 2 are best friends now.

You go into a rescue knowing it is not going to be easy. Your rescue brings with them baggage of trauma that has to be worked through and kinks to figure out. It is especially hard when you already have 2 other dogs to think about and get all all acquainted. Especially if one of those dogs (Daisy I’m looking at you) is already extremely high strung and not friendly with other dogs.

That being said, we are so blessed at how well this has turned out for all of us. Molly can’t go anywhere without following Daisy around and she basically idolizes her, it’s so cute. The two of them are now BFF and it’s crazy to even think of a time when Molly wasn’t in our family.

big three

For anyone that watches This is Us, my mom and I joke that the girls are “The Big Three.” Especially since Molly is adopted like Randall…lol.

A job that lets me bring my talents forward.

I am truly lucky to have my job- I have an amazingly supportive boss and coworkers and it is extremely flexible. My boss also lets me attend school and work my hours around that. In addition, they let me test out my Graphic Design skills on a fundraiser logo! The logo will be featured on photos that will be taken at a fundraiser we have this week and I was really honored they thought of me and felt confident in putting me on this task. I had so much fun doing it, too!

What are you grateful for this first week of November?

August Favorites

Listening now…

Glass Animals is in the soundtrack for Atypical a lot and I started to really love them!

But how the hell is it August already? P.S. as much as I love fall, I am not ready yet!

Atypical on Netflix:

Mama and I started watching Atypical on Netflix and loved it, we finished the season in a few days. There are not that many episodes, but they did leave the last one on a cliff hanger so I am thinking there is definitely going to be another season!

The show is about Sam, an Autistic teenager, and his family. Sam loves penguins and wants to fall in love. He is hilarious and the show does a really amazing job of making you feel his emotions and struggle to understand things that many of us take for granted. Things like being able to recognize other people’s emotions and how your words affect them. Things like being able to be in a room with loud music and lots of lights without having to run out covering your ears. Things like being able to form normal relationships. What is normal anyway, am I right?

I highly recommend this show to anyone! You will feel a lot when you watch it and you will laugh a lot, too.

Also, the soundtrack is really awesome too! See above  : )

Enjoying the last days of the summer…

While also getting excited for fall…

I’m not ready yet. I don’t know how or why the winter lasts so long, while summer flies by. It did feel like summer started a bit earlier for us, though, since we went to Greece in May. The weather over there felt like it was in the 80s because of the strong sun and having that trip of a life time made this summer one I will never forget.

At a certain point in August I am usually ready for fall. This year I am not there yet….but it’s okay. When I start to think about it we have a lot to look forward to! Like the new Stranger Things season and all the other wonderful aspects of fall. But that’s another post!

New games.

I don’t game a lot at all in the summer, I am outside enjoying the weather! Something I do enjoy about it getting colder is that you have more inside time to enjoy your inside hobbies. One of those for me is gaming! After all, that’s why I have a Gaming section on my blog.

August has brought a few really great changes to the gaming world! (At least for me, hehe)

August 31st I will be playing Life is Strange 2: Before the Storm.

strange.jpg

Life is Strange is the game( along with Gone Home)  that made me really love interactive story exploration type games. I can’t wait!

Yesterday, they finally released that Sims 4 Cats and Dogs is coming out in November! November 10th, to be exact. If you are a Sims fan, this has been a long time coming!

The thing I am most excited for is that you can open your own Veterinary clinic! I cannot wait.

My skin care routine.

Thanks mom for reminding me of how important it is to keep your skin healthy- I often get lazy and manage to skip washing my makeup off. Bad, I know!

But my mom got me this miracle Garnier cleansing water, which is so gentle and easy to wash it all off.

garnier.jpg

I love it! Along with these new BB creams she got me from Sephora, my skin has been looking and feeling nice lately.  I like BB cream because it has everything in 1- a little bit of color, makeup, and sunscreen. I started using it because my skin was too dry to wear makeup and it really helps. Each one has a different purpose for the skin and so far my favorite is the  “Complex pore care.”

How has your August been? Are you ready for fall?!

Currently in March

Listening now…

March has been a busy month! Honestly, I have been very busy lately and that is why I have not had as much time for blogging.

I did not even get to a “Currently” post in February. Check out my last Currently in January post to see what I was up to back then…

But if you live anywhere where this Nor’easter Stella storm hit, then you may be like me, and currently dealing with this…

Currently doing…

I am currently doing a million things at once right now, hence why blogging is once a week at the moment, here’s why! 🙂

ems birthday.jpg

Birthday celebrations for a friend were had this weekend!I left my house, hooray!

School:

Right now I am working towards an Animals & Public Policy certificate which is very focused on Animal law, Policies affecting animal laws, nonprofit administration, etc. I am still figuring school out but I think this is what I am really feeling- the skills needed to work in the animal nonprofit world- I hope! I am also considering a masters in Nonprofit Administration and would like to take both the certificate and classes for that, but school is a ton of work, time, money, etc. It is very hard to go back to school once you are working full time and paying loans and other bills- hoping I will figure this out slowly but surely…:)

Vacation Planning:

vaca

Frankie and I are planning a big trip (his first time out of the country) and we are seriously looking at Santorini, Greece.  Guys, I have wanted to go to Greece ever since I saw the first Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie which was filmed there. (Which was actually filmed in Santorini) We are waiting for his vacation time to be approved before we can book, but we are stoked! Has anyone reading this been? If so- recommendations?!

Awesome reasons to travel to Greece: (Based on my research)

  • Safe to travel to
  • Economically struggling at the moment, so cheaper goods
  • Exploring ruins! Right up my alley… so much history and things to learn here.
  • The scenery-the cliffs, beaches and blue water, blue rooftops in Santorini, the food, sunsets of Oia (or so I’ve read…)
  • Amazing Greek hospitality is something I have read a lot about
  • Greek food!
  • Greeks love to celebrate life

Time to start learning Greek language….

This is Us.

I promise you you will not be disappointed. Every single episode I cry. That good-hearty, damn I needed that-type of cry. I think it comes down to the show being about the core of family, love, loss, meaning of life, and purpose. It’s just so good, you have to watch it for yourself!

Currently reading…

When I do have free time, I have been reading…

I am not as obsessed with this book and have been taking longer to get through it than when I read my recent faves, “Behind Closed Doors,” “The Memory Box,” and “It Ends with Us.”

It’s good so far and follows the story of an ex couple, recently divorced, whose daughter Anna goes missing.  I have not gotten very far but it seems to shift between their lives and search for her and the kidnappers vague story of taking her…

Currently playing…

I recently picked up a Nintendo 3 ds with my Amazon gift care and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I used to have this game and played obsessively, then sold my ds because I needed money at the time, then immediately regretted it and missed checking on my town and my villagers. (I realize I am strange, by the way) Plus there has been an update since then that allows you to scan cards into the game with certain villagers and you can ask them to move into your town.

Anyway, I have been reconnected with AC New Leaf!

For those of you who don’t know, Animal Crossing has been around for awhile. I used to play back when I had a gamecube…

It is a game where you control your town as mayor and work to make it better- creating new public works projects and ordinances and meeting and creating relationships with your villagers (who happy to be really cute animals who talk to you.)  You can work on your house-paying off your loans and decorating, earning money to do these things by catching bugs, fish, and shaking trees for fruit and selling them. The seasons change in the game too, and there are frequently events and holidays, following real world time.

Does anyone out there play?

I also want to pick up Pokemon Moon…

What have you been up to this March?Share with me!

My new office!

Working for a nonprofit, I cannot even begin to tell you how bad our old office was…not only that, but a lot of things about it were unsafe.

We have moved offices and I can’t stress how much of an improvement this is…I feel happier and more productive already.

We have bright windows.

We have a clean office with new floors.

We have a safe space for us to work and the youth we work with to come see us now!

I am no longer embarrassed to have friends and family visit me at work. (True story.)

And…we chalkboard painted the crap out of everything.

We also got an office fishy friend named Gill.

Last Currently post I talked about how I was reading  “Behind closed doors,” which I finished and was amazing! It was a page turner, can’t put down kind of book. Which is really hard to find for me…

Now I am reading “It ends with us” by Colleen Hoover which I honestly just started and have hardly gotten far enough in to comment, but- my mom recommended the last 2 books I read which were amazing and I finished really fast. So I trust her 🙂

If you have been reading my blog for a little bit, you might know of my obsession with the show Strange things.

For Christmas this year, I even strung lights all over my Stranger things pillows to be that much more festive.

Anyway….

I found a show to tide me over until the new season starts.

The OA on Netflix.

OA.jpg

This show is really hard to put into words, so I will let Wikipedia explain:

“The series centers on Prairie Johnson, an adopted young woman who resurfaces after having been missing for seven years. Upon her return, Johnson calls herself “The OA”, exhibits scars on her back, and can see, despite having been blind when she disappeared. The OA refuses to tell the FBI and her adoptive parents where she has been and how her eyesight was restored, and instead quickly assembles a team of five locals to whom she reveals that information, also explaining her background story. Finally, she asks for their help to save some other missing people who she claims are currently in the same situation she has described to them.”

All you have to know is that it is binge worthy and you will want to keep going and going to find out what happens…

What are you currently doing this January? Share with me 🙂

This quote.

It’s just so relate-able in every way and so important to remember that everyone’s path is different and we should remember that. And not compare ourselves. I am convinced that comparison is the root of all evil and the demise to our own happiness….

We all do it…but we have to stop.

As much as I love the holidays, the new year gives me a bit of anxiety (and excitement, too!) about all of the things I have not yet done…this quote came to me at a good time!

Also I am currently loving celebrating everything to do with Christmas. Obviously!

I have been blessed to be able to see a Christmas Story the musical with my mom and sis followed by a lovely dinner, attend a cookie swap holiday party, a beautiful and festive winter walk, and a holiday farm and flea. And it’s not even Christmas yet!

Christmas comes but once a year, so time to soak up the season. Although it flies by, I really try to get as much out of it as possible!

Cue the Christmas celebrations…

This article about how to stop being afraid of everything

This article needs to be printed out and hung over my bed and/or by my mirror so I can read it and recite it to myself each and every day. I promise you will not regret this read and if you are like me, it will definitely bring you more awareness about yourself and things you know you have needed to change for awhile. And hopefully, the courage to do so.

I have also found a book that I am hooked on and cannot put down, which has not happened to me in a long time! I may actually finish a book before the new year, when I will most likely make another resolution to finish a certain amount of books that year. Lolz.

Anyway, it’s called Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris-

book.jpg

Here is the bio, taken from Good reads website:

“Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace: he has looks and wealth, she has charm and elegance. You’d like to get to know Grace better. But it’s difficult, because you realize Jack and Grace are never apart. Some might call this true love.

Picture this: a dinner party at their perfect home, the conversation and wine flowing. They appear to be in their element while entertaining. And Grace’s friends are eager to reciprocate with lunch the following week. Grace wants to go, but knows she never will. Her friends call—so why doesn’t Grace ever answer the phone? And how can she cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim?

And why are there bars on one of the bedroom windows?

The perfect marriage? Or the perfect lie”

After mama and I finished The Crown on Netflix, (SO GOOD) I was not quite sure what to do with my life.

However, I am still watching the new season of Shameless and I am a few episodes behind right now.

A new show I have picked up is West World.

Omg. West World.

The bio, taken from HBO’s website, says:

“The one-hour drama series Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin. Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, it explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.

Basically, there is a western theme park called Westworld and there are “hosts” that live there, which are artificially created to appear very human-like and cater to the very high paying visitors that come to the park. These hosts are meant to have certain lines like actors, not deviate from their “norm” and appear to have it all together for the guests… but as we know in shows, things don’t always go as planned or that would just be boring! The rest you will just have to watch for yourself…

Christmas Haul

Listening now…

Christmas spirit is in full swing and I am feeling all of the warmth surrounding the season.

I was lucky enough to be gifted more decorations from Oriental trading.

I feel so honored and lucky- Christmas is my favorite time of the year!

This came at perfect timing because in my last gratitude post I talked about how we were ripping up our carpet and putting in wood floors. Having the new decorations with new floors gave me the chance to really start fresh and get rid of a bunch of junk I had been hoarding… actual clutter really does clutter your mind and it feels good to get rid of it.

The warm and cozy pillows, the lantern, and mr. reindeer here are all from Oriental Trading.

He is just chilling while he waits for Christmas. I have not decided on a name for him yet. Suggestions?

I really love how the lantern reflects the trees onto the wall behind it…

Next to my bed we have the pinecone candle holder  which I love and will probably keep up all year long because it just has such a cozy feel!

I got to have my own little tree in my room this year!
